Throughout the activities that I choose to implement with the children, I try to include activities which are based on the gross motor skills. Hence, these are physical activities.

Usually, one tends to worry about how physical activities should carry out especially catered for younger children. With some creativity and reusable resources, one is able to do a whole activity or a circuit based on the physical abilities of the child.

Here below, are some activities which I have done with the children which supports their physical abilities and their interests.

Bean bag toss: From this activity, the children learnt to toss a bean bag. They enhanced on their fine motor skills (the palmar grasp) as well as improved their hand and eye co-ordination. The children also improved their colour recognition through the use of the traffic lights which was provided. The children had to throw the coloured bean bag onto the correct colour of the traffic lights.
Treasure hunt: This activity was taken place outside in the school setting. I asked the children to cover their eyes without peeking. The children had to find the fruit or vegetables which where placed outside. When the children found them, the children had to come up to me and tell me the name of the fruit and vegetable as well as its colour. For this reason, this activity did not only promote physical development but it also enhanced the knowledge of the younger ones.
Egg and spoon race: The children had to race towards the wall and back whilst they try to hold the egg on the spoon. If the child drops the egg, the child has to start from the starting point again. This activity was a little bit challenging to some of the children but the children found it engaging and interesting. The children also learnt the use of the spoon and the shape of the egg. We also tried to do this activity in multiple ways such as; by running, by jumping and walking slowly towards the wall.
Balancing game: This activity was done indoors. The aim of this activity was for balance and co-ordination skills. The children did this activity slowly so that nobody would fall down and loose. Some of the children pretended that the floor is lava which made the activity a lot interesting then it was planned to be.
Using a cooking pot: This activity was done outside. The children loved this activity as they have never done something similar to this before. The children had to stay in a line and pass the cooking pot to one another from under their legs. The children had stretched out before hand in order to be more flexible.
Measuring jug and pompoms: For this activity, the children had to stay in line one after the other. The children had to pass the measuring jug filled with pompoms from above their head. The children also recognised that if a taller child was before them, then the activity was harder. Throughout the activity, the children learnt the use and the purpose of the measuring jug.

The program, provided by the Starfall Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization, was conceived by Dr. Stephen Schutz. As a child, Stephen had difficulty learning to read due to dyslexia. He wanted to create a website with untimed, multisensory interactive games that allow children to see, hear, and touch as they learn.

Disappearing egg shell

The resources needed for this activity are: 1 egg, a glass and vinegar.

Step 1: Place the egg inside the glass gently.
Step 2: Pour the vinegar inside the glass until the egg is covered and sinked.
Step 3: Wait 24 hours. Throughout such hours, you can see that the egg shell is starting to disappear.
Step 4: After 24 hours, rinse the egg. You could see that the egg no longer has a shell. The shell also becomes bouncy which one can also play with.
